How to Find the Best Airport Transfers for Your Holiday

You’ve booked your flights and found the perfect hotel — but how are you actually getting from the airport to your accommodation?

Airport transfers are easy to overlook when planning a holiday, yet having your transport organised before you land can make the start of your trip considerably easier.

I particularly like pre-booking transfers when I’m arriving somewhere unfamiliar, travelling with family or landing late at night. Instead of walking out of the airport and trying to work out taxis or public transport, I already know how I’m getting to my hotel.

Here are two options worth checking when arranging your airport transfer.

If you’re booking a return transfer, check the arrangements for your journey back to the airport as well.

Knowing where and when you’ll be collected can save unnecessary stress on your final day.

Check How Far Your Hotel Is From the Airport

Before paying for any transfer, look at the actual distance between the airport and your accommodation.

Some holiday resorts are surprisingly far from the airport they are advertised as serving.

A destination might involve a 20-minute transfer, while another could require a journey of two hours or more.

Knowing this before you book helps you decide whether saving money with a shared shuttle is worthwhile or whether you’d prefer the convenience of travelling privately.

It also gives you a better idea of whether the transfer price you’re being quoted seems reasonable.

Should You Book Your Airport Transfer in Advance?

I generally prefer to have mine arranged before travelling, particularly when I don’t know the destination well.

Pre-booking can give you:

• A confirmed transport option before you arrive
• A price you know in advance
• A choice between private and shared transport
• Less to organise after your flight
• More confidence when arriving late at night or with children

It doesn’t mean a pre-booked transfer will always be cheaper than every taxi or public transport option available locally, so it’s still worth comparing your choices.

For me, the biggest advantage is often simply convenience.

After travelling for several hours, I don’t particularly want my first task to be working out how to get to the hotel.
