Afrofete Albania 2026: My Experience and Festival Highlights

After attending Afrofete in Durrës in 2025, I returned to Albania in September 2026 for its Tirana-based edition.

I had a three-day pass covering Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but ultimately attended two events: Saturday’s all-white party and Sunday’s jersey party. This review focuses on those experiences, including the entertainment, venues and practical details that shaped my weekend.

What Is Afrofete Albania?

Afrofete is a four-day festival bringing together music, parties and a holiday in Albania. It features events across multiple venues, alongside guest appearances and live artist performances.

The 2026 edition ran from 17–21 September, with Tirana as its main base. Several events were held at Select Hill Resort, alongside other venues in the city.

At the parties I attended, the music was mainly Afrobeats and Amapiano, with some DJs also mixing in Bashment and popular UK garage tracks.

My Three-Day Pass

Although my pass covered three days, I missed Friday’s Miami Vice party at Select Hill. I saw the last-entry information on the day, and by the time I understood the deadline, travelling there no longer felt worthwhile. We had arranged our daytime activities around returning to get ready, so missing the party was disappointing.

On Saturday, I chose not to attend the daytime brunch at Select Hill and focused on the all-white party that evening instead.

Saturday’s All-White Party

The all-white party took place at Pallati i Kongreseve following a last-minute venue change. The organisers explained that health and safety issues had affected the original location and that the replacement arrangements involved entry restrictions.

The last-entry announcement stated midnight. I arrived at approximately 12:45 a.m. and was admitted after that deadline, although there were lengthy queues while attendees were being processed.

As this was my first event of the weekend, my three-day pass barcode needed to be scanned before I could receive my wristband. The scanning process appeared to be affected by connectivity problems, and I waited outside for around an hour.

Once inside, I really enjoyed the party. I had been unsure what to expect from Pallati i Kongreseve, but its three floors and generous space worked well. The live drummer was a particularly good addition to the evening.

There was smoking inside the building and no re-entry, so stepping outside would have meant being unable to return. I encountered indoor smoking elsewhere during my Albania trip too, but it is worth considering if you are sensitive to cigarette smoke.

Sunday’s Jersey Party

Sunday’s jersey party at Select Hill was delayed by rain. With an open-air setting, there was some uncertainty about whether the location would change, so we followed the official WhatsApp updates.

The event went ahead at around 7 p.m. and continued until approximately 2:30 a.m. The atmosphere was really good, with fireworks and a surprise Terminal 4 performance. Although brief, the appearance gave the festival a special finish, and I was glad I went.

My main criticism was the toilet provision. There was one shared facility with two toilet rooms serving both men and women, which meant a lengthy queue. Towards the end of the night, I saw flooding inside the toilet area where people were waiting.

There was no re-entry at this event either, so leaving to find alternative facilities would have meant ending the evening. More toilets and better maintenance would have made a noticeable difference and are something I would like to see addressed at future editions.

The Music, Performances and Overall Setup

The advertised 2026 line-up featured Gabzy and Benzoo, alongside DJs, hosts, live musicians and special guests.

I did not attend every event, so I cannot review every advertised performance, but the entertainment at the two parties I attended was a highlight and a great way for me to end the summer of 2026.

The live musicians, stage dancers and guest performances helped make the experience feel bigger. I also felt the lighting and production were of a high standard, and both venues worked well as party settings.

Although the entry process and some facilities could have been better, I enjoyed the atmosphere once the parties were underway.

Entry Information and Festival Updates

There were several changes during the festival, and keeping up with the official WhatsApp group was important. Some arrangements moved quickly, and the timing of last-entry information made my weekend harder to plan.

My advice is to arrive early rather than fashionably late. Check announcements before getting ready and again before leaving, including each event’s entry deadline and re-entry policy. Allow time for transport, queuing and wristband collection.

The Cashless Wristband System

Shortly before the festival, we received instructions about the cashless wristband system and how to top up.

Afterwards, I discovered that remaining balances below £10 would not be refunded. I had approximately £8 left, which I did not receive back. I had not been aware of that threshold when topping up, so losing the balance was frustrating.

For future editions, I would check the refund conditions before adding money, including any minimum refund amount and application deadline. The arrangements may change, so this reflects my 2026 experience rather than a confirmed policy for 2027.

Did the Tirana Protests Affect My Stay?

There were protests during my September 2026 visit, but they did not disrupt our accommodation or the festival events I attended. We heard protesters while exploring the city and left the area rather than staying to watch. I did not personally witness violence.

As I update this article in October 2026, UK travel advice reports incidents of violence and property damage associated with demonstrations in central Tirana. Check the latest FCDO Albania travel advice, follow local updates and stay away from demonstrations.

The protests I encountered would not, on their own, put me off returning. That decision would depend on conditions and travel advice closer to departure.

Exploring Albania Beyond the Festival

For a first visit, I would suggest adding sightseeing days before or after the festival, rather than squeezing substantial activities between parties.

If I return in 2027, it would be my third visit to Albania. Having already done much of the sightseeing I wanted around Tirana, I would personally be more inclined to stay for the festival dates. I also found my trips becoming more expensive between visits, which would influence the length of my stay.

For a longer holiday, I would consider exploring southern Albania afterwards rather than spending the whole trip in Tirana.

Final Thoughts: Was Afrofete 2026 Worth It?

For me, yes. I enjoyed the two parties I attended and would recommend Afrofete to someone looking for music and nightlife as part of an Albania trip. Clearer entry information and improvements to facilities and payment communication would make the experience smoother.
